Financial Institutions Commission of BC

The Financial Institutions Commission is a regulatory agency of the BC Ministry of Finance. It is responsible for administering laws that regulate the pension, financial services and real estate sectors in BC. The primary focus is to ensure that institutions and pension plans in these sectors remain solvent, market conduct requirements for these sectors are respected; unsuitable individuals do not participate in financial service markets; and insure credit union deposits and non-equity shares.

The Law Centre, University of Victoria

The Law Centre provides advice, assistance, and representation to clients who cannot afford a lawyer. Cases dealt with at The Law Centre include criminal matters, family law matters, human rights complaints, civil disputes, and hearings before administrative tribunals (e.g. employment insurance, welfare, landlord and tenant disputes, and Canada Pension Plan). The Law Centre also provides law students with clinical and legal education.
