Accessibility Statement

Courthouse Libraries BC is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone, and applying the relevant accessibility standards.

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. Clicklaw is partially conformant with WCAG 2.0 level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.

Measures to support accessibility

Courthouse Libraries BC takes the following measures to ensure accessibility of Clicklaw:

  • In 2018, we hired an external consultant to conduct an accessibility review.

  • In 2019, we implemented one of the recommendations, replacing the widely-used images of text with the text itself.

  • In 2021, we added (metadata) document languages to the pages, keyboard focus, and "skip to main content" (bypass link). We optimized the sequence of content and fixed some of the alt text, redundant and empty links for screen readers. We also enabled text resizing through the browser setting.

  • We are considering implementing other recommendations gradually.

Limitations

Despite our best efforts to ensure accessibility of Clicklaw, there may be some limitations. Below is a description of known limitations. Please contact us if you observe an issue not listed below.

Known limitations for Clicklaw:

  • Colour contrast issues occur in some areas.

  • Embedded Google Maps are not accessible.

  • Some of the alt text, redundant and empty links, and links text still need a review.
