How do I make a complaint about my doctor?

Last reviewed in March 2023 by the Clicklaw Editors

All doctors, nurses, hospitals, and other health care providers have a legal duty to provide proper medical care to patients. If they fail to give that care, you have several options available to you; which option you choose depends on what kind of complaint you have.

Good starting points include:

  • Making a Complaint Against Your Doctor, from People's Law School, outlines your options if you have a complaint about your doctor.
  • Medical Malpractice, from People's Law School, describes a doctor’s legal duties and what you can do if your doctor fails to give you proper medical care.
  • Filing a Complaint about a Physician, from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC, outlines the general process that takes place when you file a complaint about a physician and includes links to the forms.
